The Pioneering Spirit
Who were the Chalutzim (Pioneers)? What motivated them to come to the “dreary heart-broken land” (Twain) and turn a vision into a reality? We will be focusing on individuals such as Joseph Trumpeldor, Rachel Blaustein, Hannah Szenesh and Ilan Ramon. Do we still have “what it takes?” Who is a Hero? Israeli Music, AV & texts will be utilized in this inter-active program based on a unit from Tuvia’s internationally acclaimed Israel education curriculum, “For the Sake of Zion.” (Koren: 2017)
The Israel Experience Trip
This session will focus on using the model of an Israel Experience trip, combined with a Mifgash (peer-to-peer encounter) between Diaspora Jews and their Israeli counterparts, as being an important tool for enhancing and enriching the Zionist/Jewish identity of adolescent Jews. We will study the effectiveness of adding an Israel experience trip to a successful program of adolescent Jewish education. The questions we will be focusing on are:

Women of the IDF
​This presentation will examine the changing roles of women in the IDF and IAF. We will look at the legal issues, the effectiveness of co-ed units, as well as examine the lives of some inspirational female service members and the impact they are having on the IDF, including the current battles Israel is fighting. Excerpts from Tuvia's best selling memoir, "Heroes of Palmar, How One IDF Unit Revolutionised Combat Medicine in Gaza," will be incorporated into the presentation."
Ilan Ramon:
A Torah in Space
This workshop will be focusing on the symbolic importance of Ilan Ramon’s achievements for Jews throughout the world and as a focus on Israel and Zionism. We will view his last address from space.
Ilan Ramon’s mission symbolised that Israel can go anywhere. He reminded us that we have revived our language, made the desert bloom, rebuilt our homeland, ingathered our exiles, have the ability to defend our homeland and protect Jews worldwide and we continue to reach for the stars. In his address to Israeli Prime Minister from the Shuttle Columbia in space, he said, “I think we have a great people in Israel, and we have to maintain our Jewish heritage. I think it’s very important to preserve our historical and religious traditions.” He added that his mission symbolised; “more than anything the ability of the Jewish people to survive anything, including horrible periods, and go from the darkest days to days of hope and faith in the future.”
