Zionism Workshops
Tuvia has lectured in North America, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and South Africa. He will be using his internationally acclaimed curriculum on Israel education, “For the Sake of Zion: A Curriculum of Israel Studies” (Koren: 2017) as a tool in the workshops on how to teach about Israel in the 21st Century. This curriculum is currently in use all over the English-speaking world. In addition, all of the workshops will contain audio-visual enhancement.
Origins of the Middle East Conflict
What are the roots of the current conflict? In this presentation Tuvia will present an overview of the History of the Middle East conflict beginning in the 19th century that includes: the roots of modern Zionism and Arab nationalism, the British Mandate and the creation of the State of Israel. The workshop is based on units from Tuvia’s internationally acclaimed Zionism curriculum “For the Sake of Zion” (Koren: 2017)

Zahal: Building a Life
In this presentation Tuvia will present a view of Zahal (IDF) from the inside. Based on personal recollections and learning about the experiences of other soldiers, the workshop will focus on the meaning of the IDF for Jews in Israel and throughout the world. Moral dilemmas faced by soldiers will be examined and discussed. This is the IDF that the media doesn’t portray. The workshop is based on units from Tuvia’s internationally acclaimed Zionism curricula “For the Sake of Zion” (Koren: 2017) and “Moral Dilemmas of the Modern Israeli Soldier” (Rama: 2011)

Israel in our Hearts and Minds
What does Israel mean to us? In this lively program Tuvia will remind us just how important Israel is by focusing on the achievements and challenges, as well as the importance and significance of the State for Jews all over the world. The Pioneering Spirit
Who were the Chalutzim (Pioneers)? What motivated them to come to the “dreary heart-broken land” (Twain) and turn a vision into a reality? We will be focusing on individuals such as Joseph Trumpeldor, Rachel Blaustein, Hannah Szenesh and Ilan Ramon. Do we still have “what it takes?” Who is a Hero? Israeli Music, AV & texts will be utilized in this inter-active program based on a unit from Tuvia’s internationally acclaimed Israel education curriculum, “For the Sake of Zion.” (Koren: 2017)
The Israel Experience Trip
This session will focus on using the model of an Israel Experience trip, combined with a Mifgash (peer-to-peer encounter) between Diaspora Jews and their Israeli counterparts, as being an important tool for enhancing and enriching the Zionist/Jewish identity of adolescent Jews. We will study the effectiveness of adding an Israel experience trip to a successful program of adolescent Jewish education. The questions we will be focusing on are:

Seventy Years Later: Nov. 29
Seventy years after the dramatic and historic UN resolution 181 to partition the British Mandate of Palestine into both Jewish and Arab states leading Israel scholar Dr. Tuvia Book examines what Israel means to us. In this lively program Tuvia will revisit this seminal moment in Modern Zionist Jewish history as well as remind us just how important Israel is by focusing on the achievements and challenges, in addition to the importance and significance of the State for Jews all over the world. Ilan Ramon: A Torah in Space
This workshop will be focusing on the symbolic importance of Ilan Ramon’s achievements for Jews throughout the world and as a focus on Israel and Zionism. We will view his last address from space.
Ilan Ramon’s mission symbolised that Israel can go anywhere. He reminded us that we have revived our language, made the desert bloom, rebuilt our homeland, ingathered our exiles, have the ability to defend our homeland and protect Jews worldwide and we continue to reach for the stars. In his address to Israeli Prime Minister from the Shuttle Columbia in space, he said, “I think we have a great people in Israel, and we have to maintain our Jewish heritage. I think it’s very important to preserve our historical and religious traditions.” He added that his mission symbolised; “more than anything the ability of the Jewish people to survive anything, including horrible periods, and go from the darkest days to days of hope and faith in the future.”
